Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) - Chris Wondolowski scored twice to help the San Jose Earthquakes come from behind and top Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 3-1, at Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday.

Sebastien Le Toux put the visitors in front early in the second half, but Wondolowski and Alan Gordon hit for three goals in the span of 10 minutes to see the 'Quakes overturn the deficit and claim a third straight win.

Vancouver came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 40th minute when John Thorrington chipped a shot toward goal from close range, but his effort clipped the crossbar as the two sides headed into halftime scoreless.

It didn't take the Whitecaps long to open the scoring as Le Toux capped a well-worked throw-in with a goal in the 49th minute.

Jordan Harvey threw the ball in to Le Toux, but the Frenchman let it run past him. He took the return pass from Eric Hassli and curled a one-time shot past Jon Busch and just inside the far post for his second goal of the season.

Vancouver's staunch defense made history in the 62nd minute, breaking the record for the longest shutout stretch to start an MLS season. Red Bull New York held the record by going 421 minutes into the 2007 without conceding, but Martin Rennie's Whitecaps side narrowly eclipsed that mark by six minutes.

San Jose pulled level in the 68th minute when Wondolowski took a throw-in from Ramiro Corrales, outmuscled Jay DeMerit and chipped a shot over the on-rushing Joe Cannon.

The 'Quakes were able to go in front just four minutes later as Gordon nodded home a delivery from Corrales for his first goal of the season.

Wondolowski then completed his brace in the 78th minute to ensure all three points for San Jose. The Earthquakes talisman was waiting at the back post to calmly volley a set-piece delivery from Tressor Moreno past Cannon for his sixth goal through five matches.

The comeback marked the first time since 2005 that San Jose was able to claim three points by overturning a 1-0 deficit at home. It last occurred in July of 2005 when it was able to comeback and edge the New York/New Jersey MetroStars with a 2-1 win.

On a three-game winning streak, San Jose improves to 12 points for a dream 4-1-0 start. The 'Quakes will aim to continue that fine form in their next outing, a date at Red Bull Arena next Saturday against the surging Red Bulls that will see the league's top three scorers (Thierry Henry, Kenny Cooper and Wondolowski) take the field.

Vancouver (2-1-2) suffered its first loss of the season in falling to the 'Quakes. The 'Caps have not claimed a win in their last three outings as their two-game winning streak to start the season seems like a distant memory. They will look to rebound when they welcome Sporting Kansas City to BC Place on April 18.
